Ashok Leyland – Nissan Motors JV to Launch Dost Passenger Mini Van

As many global auto companies are looking to gain some foothold in the LCV market, Ashok Leyland, the flagship company of the Hinduja Group, has announced that they would be launching a passenger van in collaboration with their JV partner, Nissan Motors.

The company recently unveiled their first ever LCV named the ‘Dost’ early this year. This LCV will be produced at the Hosur manufacturing plant of the company. According to reports, the chairman of Ashok Leyland, Dheeraj G. Hinduja, said that he was happy for informing that their series’ first LCV ‘Dost’ is scheduled for launch in the 3 tonne segment later this year.

After this, they launch a vehicle in the six tonne category, followed by their award winning passenger mini van. They would also be rolling out their first product from their partnership with John Deere for manufacturing construction equipments in this fiscal year.

As part of the company’s plan to increase their presence in the overseas markets, the company’s MD, Vinod Dasari, said that the company is developing many new markets especially in Russia, West Asia and Africa. Some months back, he paid a visit to Nigeria for exploring the opportunities in that market.

He added that the company saw a growth of 47% in commercial vehicle sales, managing to sell 94,106 models in the fiscal year 2010-11. He also claimed that the company had unveiled as much as 750 new products, in comparison to their usual 250 new products a year. Sales from exports contributed about 70% more in comparison to the year before’s figures, managing to sell 10,306 models in the fiscal year 2010-11.
