After being damned for mishandling the Delhi Auto Expo during the month of January, the planners are expected to shift the next version of the event to Greater Noida.
This has been stated by three industry people acquainted with the matter.
Moreover, the arrangers also decided to hold separate shows for automobiles as well as automobile parts with the intention to stay away from any uncontrollable rush.
The automobile event will take place at Expo Mart and the components show expected at Buddh International Circuit, both in Greater Noida, the three added up.
Thus far, the country’s biggest automobile show has been held at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, hosted by the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (Acma), Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) in addition to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam).
The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers has forwarded a note to different auto companies inviting their comment on the plan.
An administrative at a top automobile company stated, “We have recently got an intimation letter from Siam regarding their proposals to shift the Auto Expo to Greater Noida. They have already taken Confederation of Indian Industries into confidence. They need our advice on the subject.”
Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers’s director-general Vishnu Mathur could not be reached on his cellular phone. A note forwarded to Mr. Vishnu on Friday did not draw out any reaction. Siam representative Sugato Sen’s cellular phone remained turned off till press time.
The move comes after biz tycoons like Ratan Tata and Anand Mahindra damned the Auto Expo arrangers for deprived management of the occasion earlier this year. The location of the event was congested on the first two days that were set aside for the media people as well as special guests.
“They (industry bodies) propose to refurbish the show to the full or entire extent. An event group has been organized at Siam to investigate the matter,” said another representative. “This is certainly following a demand for enhanced management from the business as we fork out big money every year just to take part in the event.”
Domestic auto majors introduced 24 vehicles and foreign companies eight during the latest version of the Auto Expo. Besides this, eight two-wheelers got revealed by home-grown companies. Approximately 1,500 exhibitioners from 24 countries, comprising the US, China, Thailand and Turkey, took part in the event.
The Delhi version, considered one of the biggest auto expositions in the globe, is spread crosswise 115,000 sq. m of exhibition space.
Hormazd Sorabjee, editor, Autocar India, the country’s biggest-selling automobile magazine, stated that the arrangers of the auto expo must take an indication from global motor shows such as those held at Frankfurt and Geneva.
“Organizers of the Delhi Auto Expo should take a cue from how international motor shows are done. I think they need to clearly separate bikes, cars, commercial vehicles and auto constituents within the show. Organizing events of such a scale is a huge task and the most ambitious bit is dealing with the local government,” said Sorabjee, who organizes Autocar Performance Show every year in Mumbai that focuses “on luxury and performance”.
Sorabjee stated that auto events should not be viewed from just a profit viewpoint.
“We are not viewing making profit. This show is regarding giving our viewers a stage to witness the best automobiles as well asĀ bikes under one roof, particularly in Mumbai where individuals are quite smart and discerning regarding automobiles,” he said. “It must be more about sharing similar type of a passion for cars and bikes.”
The eighth version of Sorabjee’s auto show concluded on November 04 in Mumbai. He was anticipating about 100,000 individuals to visit.
