Bentley will be showcasing its environmental friendly V8 4.0L petrol engine for its Continental GT at the motor show in Detroit in 2012. However, this luxury car making subsidiary of Volkswagen is not commenting right now on its Indian launch. This new 8-valve engine, along with its environment friendly nature of bringing down fuel emission levels, is also going to increase the performance of the vehicle. However, Bentley is not totally eliminating the existing W12 engine, keeping it as an option for consumers of the Continental GTY.

This new V8 4.0L engine is going to replace the existing W12 5998cc engine. The new engine is blessed with extraordinary power generating 500Bhp at 6000rpm. Peak torque of 453Nm is going to be achieved between 1700-5000rpm. It is also going to bring down carbon emissions significantly. Although the vehicle has been provided with 8 cylinders, people who are particularly concerned about the environment have been provided the option of shutting down four of the cylinders. An eight-speed automatic transmission gearbox has been mated to this new engine and commits to achieve a 290kmph top speed. There has been no compromise made with regards to the accelerating capability of the Bentley Continental GT as it can still touch the speed of 100kmph from zero within 5 seconds. Other relevant details of the car including its fuel efficiency have not yet been disclosed and is expected to be revealed at the platform provided by the Detroit Auto Show, which will take place in January 2012.
