BMW 3-Series GT made its debut in India amidst the huge fanfare of Delhi Auto Expo 2014 for a price tag of Rs. Rs. 42.75 lakh (ex-showroom pan India) for the 320d (diesel) variant. The Bavarians said they will be launching the 328i petrol variant later this year.

Diesel GT is been powered by a twin turbocharged, 2.0 liter, four cylinder diesel engine of 184 HP and 380 Nm of torque. The top speed slated is 226 kmph, whereas the 0-100kmph time recorded is the 7.9 seconds.

BMW confirmed it to be producing the 3-Series GT here in India at its Chennai facility. On comparison, the GT is longer by 110mm than the 3 Series sedan. The goodness of 520 litres boot space can be further bettered to a cavernous 1600 litres by folding down the 40/20/40 split rear seats. To its easiness, the Germans have given it the huge bootlid like the one on Skoda Superb.

The 3-Series GT sits on the same platform of its conventional sibling; the drive layout it features is the ‘rear-wheel drive’ taken care by eight speed automatic transmission in the form of three driving modes – Comfort, ECOPRO and Sport – which are self explanatory.

Other BMW ergonomics and features too taken care of. We bet, only the niche will be buying it in India, who knows the importance of buying GT over the price of 5-Series sedan.
