General Motor’s China division is the second largest auto company in China. The company is currently looking towards other rapidly growing Asian auto markets, like India. It was recently reported that Kevin Wale, the Managing Director and President of GM China Group, reportedly revealed his intention of selling vehicles in the Indian auto market as well.
Wale reportedly said that their JV would develop low priced vehicles for entering into the market, though specific details will only come through the GM Indian JVs. Models like Sail and the recently released Wuling Baojun of Shanghai GM are considered to be two of the models which could be available in the Indian auto market.
The Indian division of General Motors was established in the latter part of 2009. The group currently has plants located in both Talegaon, Maharashtra and Halol, Gujarat both having a combined production capacity of 160,000 engines and 225,000 vehicles. GM India is reportedly going to release two passenger and three commercial vehicles in the Indian auto market by next year.
