Mahindra & Mahindra to Introduce New Alternative Powered Fuel Commercial Vehicles

One of the leading utility manufacturers in India, Mahindra & Mahindra stated that they will be introducing more commercial vehicles which can run on alternative fuels in the market in the following couple of months. The US$11.1bn company is now offering their Maximo mini van in commercial vehicles four wheel category, competiting with the Maruti Omni and Tata Magic.

The M&M’s Automotive Division’s Vice President of Sales, Vijay Nakra, confirmed that the vehicles are equipped to run on alternative fuel variants, like LPG and CNG, which will be based on the platform of the new Maxximo Minivan. The company reportedly claims that the Maxximo which launched around seven months ago has a market share of 20%, with monthly sales averaging around 525 models.

The new Maxximo Minivan was based on the platform of the Maxximo CV. Nakra reportedly said that the size of the commercial vehicle four wheeler segment is around 1,43,500 units. The company also has plans on launching their GEO Cab model in more markets under the three wheeler segment.

M&M Automotive Sector’s General Manager of Marketing, Mahesh Kulkarni, said that this vehicle is now accessible in Patna and other Northern regions. They are however, still to introduce it in Southern markets, but have plans of introducing it soon. According to Kulkarni, the passenger commercial three wheeler vehicle size was around 2,16,856 models per annum. Around 2,000 models of the Maxximo Mini Van are manufactured every month at the company’s Chakan plant, located near Pune.
