Mahindra silently launched the updated version of the Thar for the Indian roads. The Indian auto-giant received several requests from customers for adding an air conditioning system in the vehicle. Mahindra offers the more essential air conditioning system and engine immobilizer as standard in the new Thar. Designed with extreme off-road abilities, the  Thar was aimed at off-roading enthusiasts and the company did not offer an air-conditioning system. After several requests for a company fitted AC, the new Thar is an improved vehicle for off-roading and daily commutes.

The 2012 Mahindra Thar CRDe 4X4 is offered at a price of Rs 6.86 lacs (ex-showroom Delhi), fetching Rs 87,000 more than the previous version. However, the new air-conditioning will only provide relief in the CRDe version, with the DI version still running without it.

Power comes from a 2.5-litre Common Rail Turbo Diesel motor that is capable of pumping over 105 bhp peak power and 247 Nm peak torque. Mated to the diesel engine is a five-speed manual gearbox that drives the power to all four wheels via the Bog Warner manual transfercase. It is a tough call for the customers with the DI version costing higher than any other B+ segment hatch.
