According to sources, Maruti has secretly been working on a replacement model, for their long time running model, the Maruti 800. This car will also be placed below Alto, just like the current 800 car. In fact, the new car is based on the same platform as the current Alto model.
It is also likely to be powered by a similar 796cc 3 cylinder engine, with some few modifications, so that the engine meets up with the current emission standards. It will also have new interiors, as well as spacious than before.

With the addition of this new car to their portfolio, India’s largest passenger car manufacturer is targeting the under INR 2 lakh segment to differentiate it from the segment in which the Alto is positioned by around INR 40,000. This will put the car in competition with the cheapest small car, Tata Nano, from Tata Motors.
