The wait is finally over and Maruti Suzuki India Limited {MSIL} have launched the diesel version of the Maruti SX4. Last night, the company’s CEO and Managing Director, Shinzo Nakanishi said that the diesel variant would be a new age technology which is guaranteed to have low emissions and at the same time, would be high on performance and power. Since the SX4 diesel is lighter than its rivals, it has that efficiency punch to deliver as well. He also claimed that the SX4 diesel would be the most fuel efficient sedan in its category with a claimed mileage of 21.5 kms/liter.
The power output of the car from its 1.3 liter multijet engine is 90 Bhp @ 4000 rpm. Like the petrol variant, even this would be available initially in 3 variants namely theĀ base version or Vdi, the top version Zdi and the optional Zdi with leather upholstery. The CEO also has high hopes with the diesel powered SX4 and expects it to rake in good sales numbers like the other smaller diesel cars from the Maruti stables namely the Dzire, Ritz and Swift. In short MSIL have ensured that they give the customer a wider choice from their sedans. Currently the SX4 is offered in CNG, petrol and now diesel variants. The introductory price been pegged for the SX4 diesel is Rs 7.7 lakhs for the base variant and Rs 8.62 lakhs for the top end version with leather upholstery. All these prices are ex-show room ones.
