Force Motors announced that their new SUV to be introduced in July is called the Force One. This is the Pune based company’s first passenger vehicle. It later on plans to add to this range by introducing a jeep for off-road traveling, as well as a luxury van by 2012.

The managing director of the company, Prasan Firodia, said that the new Force One SUV will be introduced within 30 to 40 days time. The SUV will offer class leading reliability and leg room.

He also added that within a year itself, they plan to sell around 4,000 units, whereas by the second year, they have set a target of 9,000 units. The new SUV is positioned in the entry to mid range SUV category. The SUV is likely to be priced at INR 12 to 14 lakhs. Force One will soon compete with the likes of Tata Safari, Mahindra Scorpio in the entry level category and the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour in the mid range category.

The SUV has a 2.2l diesel engine and transmission that are both licensed from the Mercedes Benz Company. Lotus Engineering, a UK based firm, has tuned the SUV chassis. While the price is not yet out, it is expected to be competitive as 75% of SUV will be localised.
