Chevrolet Planning Competitor for Honda City?

As per the latest rumours and reports, GM is looking to build on the existing line up of cars in the Chevrolet portfolio and will release a minimum of five models by 2017. In addition to this, it is also being rumoured that Chevrolet would introduce a global C-segment sedan that would make its place below the Chevrolet Cruze.

It is also being rumoured that the Indian version of this model would have a turbo petrol unit or even may have a diesel option. GM India has already made it clear that all the future models of the manufacturer would be manufactured at the Talegaon, Maharashtra plant of the company.

As per reports, the model has already been undergoing testing and may be globally unveiled by the end of 2016.

Since India is one of the largest volume markets in this segment, GM is quite likely to launch it with much fanfare here and if launched it would be above the sub four-meter Chevrolet Beat sedan that is likely to go on sale in 2017.

GM has already had an unsuccessful attempt at the C-segment in India. They had released the Optra SRV premium hatchback as well as the Optra sedan in the past and both did miserably in the markets and were axed soon after the initial blitz. However, the brand is likely to learn from these mistakes and it will be interesting to see how this car shapes up for the global market.

Maruti Swift is Most Loved Hatchback in India: Study

Customer satisfaction with new-vehicle design and performance in India increases for a sixth consecutive year, according to the J.D. Power Asia Pacific 2013 India Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study released today.

Now in its 15th year, the study examines how gratifying a new vehicle is to own and drive, based on owner evaluations during the first two to six months of ownership. The study measures satisfaction across 10 performance categories: vehicle exterior; vehicle interior; storage and space; audio/ entertainment/ navigation; seats; heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC); driving dynamics; engine/ transmission; visibility and driving safety; and fuel economy. Overall APEAL performance is reported as an index score based on a 1,000-point scale, with a higher score indicating higher satisfaction.

The overall APEAL score averages 845 in 2013, which is a nine-point increase from 2012. The industry improves across all 10 categories, with the largest improvement posted in the audio/ entertainment/ navigation category, due to a higher percentage of vehicles being delivered with factory- or dealer-installed features such as USB connectivity for iPod/MP3 players, hands-free communication and steering wheel-mounted audio controls.

“Increasingly, vehicle owners want to improve the value of the time spent in their cars, and audio/ entertainment/ navigation features help them stay connected and entertained,” said Mohit Arora, executive director at J.D. Power Asia Pacific, Singapore. “Increased choice of branded accessories at a range of prices has also increasingly induced new-vehicle buyers to install such fitments at the time of delivery.”

During the past five years, the impact of vehicle exterior on overall satisfaction has increased, particularly in the midsize segment. Additionally, 13 percent of owners indicate that good vehicle styling was the main reason they selected the vehicle that they purchased in 2013, up from 8 percent in 2012.

The quality of vehicles has improved consistently during the past three years, and sensitivity towards vehicle breakdown has increased in India Although the proportion of customers experiencing a breakdown in their vehicle has remained at 4 percent since 2011, the gap in APEAL scores between customers who experience a breakdown and those who do not has increased to 44 points in 2013 from 23 points in 2011.

Among highly satisfied customers (overall satisfaction of 902 points or higher), 87 percent say they “definitely would” recommend their vehicle model to a friend or relative.

“The high recommendation rate among highly satisfied customers further emphasizes the importance of catering to customer needs and requirements,” said Arora. “While on one hand automakers are adding more features to their models, they also need to understand the customer value propositions for these features.”

Maruti Suzuki models rank highest in each of the compact segments: Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 (entry compact); Maruti Suzuki Estilo (compact); Maruti Suzuki Ritz (upper compact); and Maruti Suzuki Swift (premium compact).

Toyota models rank highest in the utility vehicle segments: Innova in the MUV/ MPV segment for a seventh consecutive year and Fortuner ranks highest in the SUV segment.

The Honda Amaze ranks highest in the entry midsize segment. The Hyundai Verna and Volkswagen Vento rank highest (in a tie) in the midsize segment. The Chevrolet Cruze ranks highest in the premium midsize segment. The 2013 India APEAL Study is based on responses from 9,069 owners who purchased a new vehicle between November 2012 and July 2013. The study was fielded between May and September 2013 in 25 cities across India.

2016 Next-generation Chevrolet Cruze spied testing

Had the Chevrolet Cruze in our market for quite long, it is now the duty of carmaker to bestow us with its new face which seems getting delayed a bit. But no to disappointment, next-generation 2016 Cruze is spotted doing test rounds in Italy. Due to the heavy dose of camouflage, it deprived us from getting even a minute sneak peek.

Hence, as it seems the testing going there, the production/revelation of it may commence/surface soon.

However, there are no official words about it from the carmaker, but we had learnt that American carmaker is busy ramping up the production process for American fraternity where the car was launched very recently. It is for sure new-one is there in the pipeline, which may happen to take cues from the Chevrolet Tru 140S concept of 2012 Detroit Motor Show.

Right now there aren’t any of the clear-cut sources which would tell us how the new-generaiton Chevrolet Cruze would look like, but the engine specifications may remain same with that of the most probably ongoing diesel jag. While the addition of 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol could make possible the more of green compositions by low CO2 emission.

It has a maximum speed of more than 200 kmph. In terms of fuel efficiency, it gives 10.2km per liter in town and 17.8 km per litre on the highway. The petrol version of the car comes equipped with a 1.6 litre CRDi engine that is also found in the Verna. It produces maximum power and torque of 128PS at 4000rpm and 260Nm at up to 2750rpm. It has a top speed of 189 kmpl. The Elantra is a spacious car. The front has a maximum head room of 960mm. In the rear the maximum and minimum knee room is 890mm and 650mm respectively. The suspension and chassis come with all the conventional bits that can be expected from a contemporary car in the segment.

Renault’s Fluence is one of many rivals that are challenging the new Elantra. The Renault Fluence is also an extremely beautiful car. The blend of new features with French flair has added to the charisma of the car, which can be proved by mentioning the fact that this car is finding steady buyers in the market. Like the Hyundai Elantra, the Renault Fluence has been designed as an all-rounder. Drive dynamics can be described as very easy going, while preference has been found impressive. The Fluence has been priced slightly below the Elantra, but when we make a comparison between the lists of the two cars’ features and comforts, the Elantra offers much more.

The new 1998cc engine produces an astonishing power of 166PS at 3,800rpm and a strong torque of 380Nm at 2,000rpm, which make the vehicle a rather powerful option against the diesel version of the Elantra’s power and torque of 128PS at 4000rpm and 265Nm at up to 2,750rpm respectively. The Cruze also features a rather fresh design and offers a rather respectable level of drive comforts. But, the Cruze too lose out to the Elantra in terms of overall comforts because its rear is somewhat tight, whereas the Elantra’s rear offers maximum and minimum knee room is 890mm and 650mm respectively.

The Volkswagen Jetta challenges the higher end of the Elantra. It has already made a strong impression in the segment. It comes packed with pretty much everything that can be expected from a contemporary sedan. The extremely good looking Jetta offers a blend of German engineering, build quality, a lot comforts, powerful & agile engine options, and a great fit and finish. The Jetta can easily outshine the Elantra in terms of features and comforts, but as the Elantra is rather aggressively priced, many potential Jetta buyers could shift their choice to the Elantra.

Like Volkswagen Jetta, the Skoda Laura also challenges the higher end of the Elantra. It is a terrible contender to the Elantra in terms of pricing. But, the Laura scores more than the Elantra in terms of performance. When it comes to interior space, the Elantra once again wins. The second generation Laura has been around in India since two years and is doing extremely well. Infact, it is the so called bread winner for the Skoda family here, outselling even its smaller brethren, the Octavia and also the Fabia. Price range for this one starts from Rs 13.43 lakhs and goes upto Rs 17.57 lakhs for the top end model.

Chevrolet Cruze to Get New Engine Upgrade

The Chevrolet Cruze will be upgraded with the addition of a new engine. This engine will be from the manufacturer’s Z Series engines.

The car will get a new DOHC 2.0l common-rail diesel motor that is capable of delivering 163bhp of max power, an increase over its earlier 150bhp max power. It will also be able to generate more torque than before. With the addition of this new engine, the car maker is trying to ensure that the Cruze stays put on its top diesel performance pedestal.

Apart from the addition of a new engine, the car is also likely to get a few small cosmetic changes. Based upon customer feedback, GM India is also going to redesign the rear seats for providing more head room. The new upgraded Chevrolet Cruze will hit showrooms sometime this year.

Not many people know that Chevrolet or indeed General Motors was the first to introduce the air bag concept in a car way back in 1930. General Motors has infact been air bags as standard equipment in all their cars even in India and this lead us to write this article about one of the safest cars in the General Motors arsenal now. And no, General Motors hasn’t paid us to write this article.

The Chevrolet Cruze is one of the cars from General Motors’s global platform and has been first unveiled in India of all the places. This car immediately became the best seller in its segment for its killer looks, good engine and excellent ride and handling package. That is one of the safest cars in its class is often overlooked. It is an excellent demonstration of the many active and passive safety features that the car possess.

To start with, one would look at the stopping power of a car this powerful. The Chevrolet Cruze has powerful disc brakes on all the four wheels. These brakes are also assisted by anti-lock brakes or ABS. ABS ensures that the wheels of the car don’t lock up inspite of heavy braking and hence one can maintain control of the steering even in emergency or slippery surfaces. Complementing the ABS is Electronic Stability Program {ESP} and traction control. These are managed by General Motors’s GMLAN.
