Raised from France and aspired to take on the whole world with its French diligence, Renault confirmed its aggression towards the South East Asian market, by starting the production of Fluence in Malaysia.
Gilles Normand, Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Region for the Renault group, and Dato Tan Heng Chew, Executive Deputy Chairman and Group Managing Director of Tan Chong Motors Holdings Berhad, today signed an agreement to build Fluence in Malaysia.
As per Renault, Malaysia economy is growing at an annual rate of 5%, falling third on the list in SE Asia after Thailand and Indonesia, to tap this enhancement in the economical changes, Renault had also planned to open 25 dealers by 2016.
In addition not only to increase the number of dealerships, the French automaker had said to bring in new models to suit the demand of the local buyers.
“We are delighted to be strengthening our partnership with Tan Chong Motors, partner to Nissan, with which Renault has been working for over ten years. This agreement marks the start of a new stage in the development of Renault in Malaysia where our ambition is to establish Renault as the within the top 3 of generalist European car makers by 2018,” said Gilles Normand.
“With the Malaysian automotive market now opening its doors more widely to foreign vehicle manufacturers, and after our work with Nissan, we are very pleased to have this agreement with a leading European brand such as Renault,” said Dato Tan Heng Chew.
The French automaker showcased the new 2014 Renault Fluence at Delhi Auto Expo this year. The company has already started production of the vehicle at its Oragadam, Chennai plant and the car will hit showrooms by 19th March. The Renault Fluence is a sedan positioned between the upper-mid range segment and compact family vehicle segment. It now features the company’s new styling identity and integrates LED daytime running lights which contribute to its modern yet dynamic look. With a wide wheelbase, it is comfortable, practical and built for all uses. The Fluence is a vehicle with strong international potential. Currently, it is built at the plants in Bursa (Turkey), Busan (South Korea), Cordoba (Argentina) and Moscow (Russia) as well as at Renault-Nissan Alliance plant in Chennai (India).
The 2014 Renault Fluence will be offered in two different variants with a diesel engine: the E2 and E4. The 1.5 liter diesel powerplant is good for producing 110PS of power with 240 newton meters of torque. It is teamed up with a 6-speed manual transmission and the fuel efficiency is claimed 20.4 kilometers per litre. The 2.0 AT petrol version though will be offered in a single variant. The chrome/gloss black inserts and LED daytime running lights contribute to the newcomer’s modern appeal. The exterior gets revisions in the form of redesigned headlamps, a new front grille, new bumpers incorporated with foglights, a new design for 16 inch alloys and bigger Renault logo.
The cabin is as roomy as ever and has been enhanced by the use of new upholsteries for segment-topping comfort. The interior design is also more modern with features such as illuminated glove box, a soft touch dashboard, touch screen entertainment system, stereo system with mp3/radio/Bluetooth connectivity, engine stop & start button, follow me headlamps, 4 airbags for protecting passengers in an event of a crash and electrically adjustable side mirrors. The on-board technologies and contemporary styling of this 3-volume sedan car, which is poised to continue the model’s international career, have been designed to match the needs of its customers as closely as possible. The automaker’s next major introduction in India will be the redesigned Duster sports utility vehicle with a 4X4 configuration in tow. The redesigned Duster is the company’s best-selling car vehicle in India and will be launched ahead of this year’s festive season.
Renault has unleashed a slew of its new models at the Auto Expo 2014, which include the KWID concept. It was seen that the company also launched the Fluence facelift. The E4 version of the car is said to be priced at Rs.15.81 lakhs, while the E2 version is priced at Rs.14.22 lakhs.
This new Fluence facelift gets a new grille, which shows the global design of the company. The fog lamps of the car get daytime running lights and it also features a new R16 Kaleido alloy wheels. On the inside of the car, the dashboard gets a soft touch finish along with a dual tone. While both the E4 and the E2 variant of the car gets daytime running lights, only the top model of E4 features “Fog lamp housing with glossy black finish.” An additional option of interior chrome lock package and also exterior rear chrome lock package is offered with the E4.
The electric defrosting is featured in both the E2 and E4 variants of the car, and a rain sensing front wiper has also been added to the E4 variant. Some of the other features offered with the E4 are the front parking assist, 3D surround sound by Arkamys, leather upholstery, 4 tweeters, Electro Chrome rear view mirror, rear aircon, driver seat lumbar support, rear sunblinds and also electrically foldable and adjustable ORVMs with temperature sensor. The Fluence facelift is said to be powered by a K9K, 1,461cc diesel engine that can produce power up to 110PS @4000rpm with maximum torque of 240Nm @1850rpm. The engine of the car has been mated to six speed manual transmission.
During its test drives on Indian roads, a number of car enthusiasts have spotted the facelifted version of the Renault Fluence. It can be concluded that since the facelifted sedan has been spotted on the road early in the month of July, the production of the car must have already started and is expected to be revealed by 2014. Its debut is scheduled to be held at the Indian Auto Expo 2014 in Noida. Renault has given a clear indication that the company is not planning to launch any new car in the Indian automobile market. It would rather launch the facelifted versions of the cars that are already in the market. Some of these cars are Koleos, Duster and Fluence.
By the end of 2012, the facelifted version of the Fluence had been revealed at the Istanbul Auto Show. The car seemed to have done extremely well in the European market with the company getting orders even before the car getting launched.
The new and updated version of the Renault Fluence has a number of changes compared to its previous model. The 2014 sedan features a new front bumper along with redesigned headlamps. Just like all the new cars, these new headlamps are also LED headlamps which give the car an appealing look. Most of the changes in Fluence are from the exterior, while the interiors are considered to be more or less the same.
The top model of the car offers a new integrated navigation system. Customers will have the option of choosing between the 2-litre petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel engine, which are the only two variants the company will be offering.
