Tata Motors Posts 5.6% Decline in July Sales

Tata Motors recently posted a decline of 5.6% in their overall sales for the month of July. The company saw a drop in their sales from 67,800 vehicles in July 2010, to 63,761 vehicles in July 2011.

The company’s overall sales of passenger vehicles in India were 17,192 vehicles, a decrease of 38.30%, compared to the corresponding period in the previous year, when it sold 27,865 passenger vehicles, according to a statement released by the company.

The newest offering of the company, the Tata Nano sold 3,260 vehicles, a decrease of 64% in sales. Meanwhile, their Indica range reported a drop of 32% in sales, selling around 5,860 vehicles last month.

Their Indigo range of vehicles sold 4,877 vehicles, a drop of 30% in sales. The sales of their Aria, Safari and Sumo also fell by 2% to 3,195 vehicles. In the segment of commercial vehicles, the company managed to sell a total of 40,798 vehicles in comparison to the 35,694 vehicles it sold in the same period last month, resulting in a growth of 14.3% for the company in this segment.

The sales of LCV’s during last month accounted for 24,962 vehicles sold, an increase of 22% as against last year’s, whereas the sale of heavy and medium commercial vehicles were around 15,836 vehicles, an increase of 4%. The company, however, saw a ray of light in its exports, with the company sales from exports accounting for 5,771 vehicles, compared to July 2010’s 4,241 vehicles, an increase of 36.08%.
