It’s raining awards for the iconic brand, the Land Rover, in the New Year. Land Rover has lapped up two special compliments at this year’s What Car? awards. To begin with, the Discovery 4 won the seventh back-to-back What Car? when it announced that it has held its fort in the category and reigned supreme in the 4×4 segment. But wait folks, the party isn’t over yet since the most anticipated and Land Rover’s newest kid on the block, Evoque, also cornered its first significant title with the award for the most exciting car of the year.

This win has not come easy to this iconic brand’s, Discovery 4, as it was pitched against the behemoths like Hyundai Santa Fe and the BMW X3, but the more challenges you throw at the beast, the more it takes it in its stride and is always begging for more. This is not the only accolades which this all rounder vehicle has bagged. It’s been an un-ending list of such awards with the total medal tally of almost 150, since it was launched in the year 2004.

Chief editor of What Car? was quoted as saying, that what the car has accomplished is truly an amazing feat, as everybody loves the Land Rover ever since it was declared the winner of the What Car? award the very first time in the year 2005. This being its seventh consecutive glorification as the numero uno in its 4×4 abilities which is coupled with the family friendly features and executive quality, it is a real iconic car in its true sense.

The exceptional breadth of the capability that Discovery 4 incorporates has made it the most decorated vehicle in the world. It’s a thrilling experience that it’s been named once again the 4×4 of the year, echoed John Edwards, Global operations Director of Land Rover.

A host of new features like the latest version of super-efficient 3.0 L—TDV6 engine as the entry level choice for the customers of UK, seems to benefit the Discovery in 2011. An acclaimed sequential turbocharged diesel machine replaces the old 2.7 LR-TDV6 and also meets the Co2 emission norms with a decent mileage.

Newer enhancement for the year saw Land Rover’s improvement in its award-winner terrain-response system, with the injection of Gradient Acceleration Control and Hill Start Assist. This year’s What Car? award coincided with the latest launch of Discovery 4’s limited edition named, the Landmark, which is up for grabs from this month. This car sports a unique black-white scheme which brings it a contemporary and fresh sense of aesthetics to the newest line-up of the Discovery 4. Contemporary bold color schemes are blended with high-end interiors to the car for an upmarket look.

Evoque, which won its first major award for the most exciting car of the year, is a definite sign of a momentum that is accumulating around the new Range Rover. The Evoque that is expected to see the light of the day later in this year which will bring along the much acclaimed Land Rover LRX, which was hereto a concept car, into production reality. It has successfully emulated the original scheme of the cross coupe concept. Is is being built at the Halewood manufacturing plant, which was the winner of the most coveted Reader award, hands down.
