The new Abarth Punto Evo has been launched by Fiat here in India and the company has priced it at a fairly competitive Rs.9.95 lakh. One of the very limited performance hatchbacks available today, the car will be taking on the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI and the Ford Figo automatic edition in the markets here in India.
The car is powered by a 1.4 litre T-Jet engine from Fiat which delivers 145bhp in terms of power as well as 212Nm in terms of torque. Mated to a five speed manual gearbox, the Abarth Punto Evo is one of the few sub 10 lakh hatchbacks that deliver more than 100bhp of power and is the highest rated among this group. The suspension too has seen a change and will have added braking power with the help of all four disc brakes.
The car is a follow up to the 595 Competizione and will be sold under the Abarth badge. It is based largely on the Punto Evo but has both cosmetic as well as mechanical updates.
In terms of looks, the car looks sporty and has decals with 16 inch alloy wheels. The Fiat logo too sees a change and has been replaced by the Abarth scorpion. The interior too has been made keeping in mind the sporty feel of the car. Available in hip hop black as well as pearl white colours, the Abarth will look to make itself a niche player in the premium hatchback segment.
The Abarth Punto Evo will be launched by Fiat on 19th October here in India. This will make the car the first “affordable performance hatchback” in the nation.
The Punto is to be sold with the Abarth badge only like the Abarth 595 and the Abarth Scorpion will be replacing the Fiat logo on the car as well. The paint scheme too will be different on the badge in a bid to keep in line with the sporty lineage of the car.
The Punto will be based on the on the basic Fiat hatchback but will use the 1.4 litre turbocharged T-Jet engine which delivers 143bhp in terms of power as well as 200Nm in terms of torque. The car will be a front wheel drive mated to a five speed manual gearbox with other mechanical changes including four disc brakes as well as better suspension. This will mean better stopping power as well as better driver dynamics.
In terms of interiors, the Abarth Punto has metal pedals, leather upholstery as well as the features that come with the top of the line Punto Evo. The Abarth Punto Evo is likely to cost around Rs.1 lakh above the top end model of the current car. In terms of pricing, the Abarth Punto will be taking on the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI but is at a significant advantage when it comes to power output.
Fiat is getting all set to launch its Egea sedan next month and the car has just been spotted without camouflage for the first time giving more insight into the looks of the car.
The Egea looks quite good and is set to replace the Bravo. Already under production, the Egea looks like an evolutionary advancement over the Bravo and is already set for production in Turkey.
In terms of design the Egea features the Fiat front grille, axe shaped headlamps and muscular bonnet. The car also looks like it has 17 inch wheels on the side with a small boot opening and a high bumper.
The car is to be offered in two petrol as well as diesel engine options which would deliver an output in the range of 95 to 120bhp with two transmission options also likely, that is the six-speed Auto Transmission as well as the six speed manual.
In terms of interiors, the car has a large steering wheel, a new instrument cluster, a climate control system as well as a 5 inch infotainment system.
The Fiat Egea is likely to be displayed by the company at the Auto Expo in 2016 with an end of 2016 launch scheduled for the country. This would make India one of the first among the RHD markets to get the car and the release strategy is likely to be similar to that of the Linea Classic.
The 2015 Istanbul Motor Show saw the revealing of the Aegea, which is the four-door sedan from Fiat and news is now coming in that Fiat will be renaming it before the official launch. The company had already hinted at the show that they would be giving a new name to car once the launch was closer and have now confirmed that indeed it will be referred to as the “Egea”, that is, without the “A” in its name.
To be powered by two petrol engines and two Fiat Multi Jet II diesel engines in various tuning states, the car is likely to deliver between 94bhp and 118bhp in terms of power. It has already been spotted doing production runs in Turkey, where it will be launched first and has looked quite impressive to begin with. The car measures in at 4.5 metres in length, 1.48 metres in height and about 1.78 metres in width. It also has a 2.64 metre long wheelbase.
In terms of features, Fiat is looking to add automatic climate control, multi function steering wheel, Bluetooth connectivity as well as a touchscreen infotainment system making it a complete package for the driver.
In terms of India plans, Fiat will look towards the Egea to do better than the Linea in the market. Fiat doesn’t really have much going for it in the Indian market now and a successful launch would go a long way in establishing the credibility of the brand in the country.
Fiat is coming out with a sport utility pickup which is being called the “Toro” and the company has teased the car before an official launch. The vehicle is a ‘cross-breed’ of sorts as it is said to bring together the characteristics and strengths of a truck and combine it with the driveability that comes with an SUV.
Looking at the teaser images, it does look like the car is similar to the FCC4 four-door concept in terms of design. The concept has been seen at Sao Paolo Motor Show last year and there are a lot of takeaways from that and the teaser image.
In terms of engine, Fiat is rumoured to have based the vehicle on the present gen Mitsubishi Triton and is set to borrow the engine from the company with a bi-fuel 1.8-litre motor delivering about 140bhp in terms of power.
The Toro is also likely to come with both a two wheel as well as a four wheel drive option.
The car looks sleek and stylish with a hexagonal grill on the front fascia, a tall front end and sleek LED headlights and has been designed keeping South America largely in mind. Pickups in the continent are on high demand and the company is looking to cash in on this with its line up. The Toro will be one sale following an official debut and is set to take on the Volkswagen Amarok and the Toyota HiLux.
Fiat, one of the top brands selling cars in India, will be organizing a free check up camp from 5th to the 10th of October for all its customers. All car owners who have Fiat vehicles are entitled to get their cars checked up for free at their closest dealerships.
According to the President and Managing Director of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles India (FCA), Kevin Flynn, the aim of this camp is to build customer satisfaction. The company is looking to build itself on a long term level in the country and has identified customer happiness as the key element of improving sales. The company is looking to make programs that allow for greater connect with customers and this check up is part of the exercise. Routine programs are being rolled out by FCA India with the help of which present owners of Fiat can receive technical support as well as ensure that their cars are running fit and fine.
As part of this check up camp, Fiat will be screening the cars and the personnel will be providing advice as to whether or not any replacements and repairs are required. There will also be a ten per cent discount offered by the company on labour as well as cheaper spare parts. A free car wash will also be given as part of the workshop. Fiat is looking to use this to reach more customers and establish itself firmly as a brand to be reckoned with.
Abarth, a brand of Fiat, is getting ready launch the Punto in the next month. The car was first seen at the Buddh International Circuit in August and is ready to be welcomed in the Indian market. Abarth looks at the manufacture of performance products that are installed in Fiat cars and has made sure that it carves out its own identity with this launch and that Fiat’s name is seen nowhere across the campaign. The #WhoAmI is an endeavor in this direction to make it clear that the Punto belongs to the Abarth brand and not to Fiat.
The car is all set to lead in the non premium segment and comes packed with features including a 1.4-litre turbojet engine that delivers 145bhp in terms of power as well as 200Nm of torque. Though globally the engine is rated to power 135PS and 200Nm, the company claims that they have fine tuned it to deliver more here in India. The suspension also sees an upgrade to keep with this.
The car looks stunning and has sporty decals, the Scorpion logo and the Abarth badge which set it apart from the rest.
The Abarth Punto is likely to be priced at lower than Rs.10 lakh and will target the performance hatchback segment. The car has almost a complete focus on power and this will be the USP of the car. Bookings have already begun at all Fiat India dealerships.
It has been officially announced by Fiat India that bookings for the Punto Abarth have begun. The hatchback has been eagerly awaited in Indian markets and at a booking amount of Rs.50000, many are going hammer and tongs to try and complete their booking as soon as they can. The Punto Abarth in its final form was shown recently during the 595 Competizione launch and is to be launched within a month here in India.
The car is set apart by the 1.4-litre T-Jet turbocharged engine which we saw earlier on the Linea T-Jet and with a power output of a great 140bhp coupled with 200Nm in terms of torque, the Abarth packs quite a punch. In addition to the engine, a disc brake has been added at all four corners by Fiat and the ride height has also been lowered by 200mm when compared to a standard car.
With the Abarth, Fiat is looking to make the most of the festive atmosphere and will sell the car on the basis of the “Made in India” tag that has been gaining popularity. In terms of looks, the Abarth looks quite a lot like the Punto however; in terms of performance it definitely has enthusiasts licking their lips. The Abarth already has raised a lot of attention and all that is necessary now is an affordable price tag to make it among the most sought after hatchbacks in the supremely competitive segment today.
A few Fiat dealerships have started taking advance orders for the Indian bound Fiat Punto Abarth. These bookings are now mostly being accepted by exclusive Fiat Abarth dealerships where one can book the car where one can book a unit of this car by paying an amount of Rs.1.5 lakh. Once can also choose their preferred color for the car while booking. Many color options are currently available including black, grey and white.
As far as the features and specs of the Fiat Punto Abarth goes, it will be powered by a 1.4-liter T-Jet engine capable of producing a peak power of 145bhp and a peak torque of 195Nm. This engine was earlier seen in the Fiat Linea sedan and since then has been reworked and improved a lot. With all this power in its belly, the Punto Abarth can hop from zero to hundred in less than 10 seconds. Power to wheels is delivered through a five-speed manual transmission.
Exterior design feature of the Punto Abarth will include features such as Abarth badges, wing mirror caps, contrasting colored grille, dual tone alloy wheels, Abarth side decals etc. Interior features will include dual front airbags, ABS, special fabric seats and Abarth logos.
The Punto Abarth is slated for launch sometime this October. Once launched, the car will compete in the Indian market against the likes of Volkswagen Polo GT TSI.
Just a couple of weeks after it launched the Fiat Abarth 595 Competizione in India, Fiat India has teased a photo of its upcoming 500 Abarth on Twitter. Compared to the standard Fiat 500, the Abarth version looks sportier. Although matching the popularity of the Fiat 500 can be quite a hard task for the Abarth since the Fiat 500 has a huge fan base and almost has cult status amongst auto lovers.
The power source of the Abarth 500 would a four-cylinder 16-valve 1.4-liter MultiAir petrol engine capable of producing 160bhp of peak power and 230Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
The price of the Fiat Abarth 500 when it is launched is expected to be priced around 25 lakhs mark which would make it in a same league as the MINI Cooper, BMW 1 Series and Mercedes A-Class. But would it be easy for the 500 Abarth to survive in this competitive market since the likes of Mercedes, BMW and MINI already have a good network of dealerships and service centers across the country – something that Fiat lacks very badly.
