June 27th: The D-Day for 2012 Chevrolet Cruze Facelift

The upcoming upgrade of Chevrolet Cruze sedan has been conquering the automobile news segment since past few weeks. The soon-to-be-launched upgrade of the sedan is amongst the most anticipated car of the year as of now. Finally, General Motors have decided to bring in some real good news for automobile lovers.

The auto giant has finally decided to launch the upgraded version of theĀ  Chevrolet Cruze sedan. Although company officials were spotted quoting that the launch will be done in two phases. The first phase will include launch of the car in Delhi on June 27th, while the second phase will comprise of the launch in Mumbai on June 29th.

As per earlier reports, the car has undergone several changes under the hood. To be precise, engine and drivetrain have been taken into account at the first place while redesigning of the upgraded version of the car. Unlike earlier 1991cc engine, the upgraded version will feature a 1998cc engine. Moreover, the upgraded engine is being anticipated to produce a power of 164bhp at the peak torque of 38.7kgm. The entire engine setup has been coupled with unconventional 6-speed transmission in both automatic and manual. The earlier version was confined to 5-speed manual transmission only.

Most other features have been kept unchanged, as the automakers have been planned to bring in a complete makeover to the sedan by next year. This might be the reason why the sedan has been given slight touches under the hood, so as to improve fuel efficiency, drivability and refinement this time. However, rest of the slight touches under the hood includes redesigning of cylinder head and change of location of air intake. The earlier rubber belt-driven valve has been replaced with chain-driven DOHC valve. On the other hand, common rail injection system in the upgraded version is capable enough to work under a pressure of 1800 bar with seven injections, while the earlier version was capable of resisting only 1600 bar with five injections. Finally, what extra change has been made is that the location of the air intake has been changed a bit. Although, the change in is small, but it has turned out to be quite crucial in terms of fuel efficiency. The air intake in the newer version has been kept quite closer to the inlet manifold. The basic reason behind this is to improve the turbo time lag.

The 2012 Chevrolet Cruze Facelift has kept the earlier version behind in terms of mileage too. Unlike earlier version’s mileage of 9.8 kmpl to 15.3 kmpl, the newer version is being speculated to keep the figures to reciprocate somewhere between 15-16 kmpl on highways and 11 kmpl in city rides.

Such a move by General Motors in the current economic scenario is certainly going to shoot the sales of the car up. It’s because of increasing fuel and interest rates that demand of vehicles has slumped. Now, when customers are being offered technological upgrades along with better fuel efficiency then why won’t people would seek cars like the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze Facelift?
