The automaker Lexus revealed it’s new IS range which is scheduled to appear in European market by this summer. The line-up that was revealed at the Detroit Motor Show includes the full hybrid version of the IS, the IS 300h along with the gasoline powered IS 250. Both version offers rear wheel drive and are also available with the Lexus’s F Sport package.
The new IS series looks like inspired from the Lexus’s LF-CC concept car and offers its own adaptation of the spindle front grille that has now became the hallmark of the new Lexus models. The car impress with the power, elegance and stronger brand presence.
The profile shows major cabin concentration towards the rear with the rise that follows from the lower body to the rear taillights. The new powerful headlamp cluster design with the Lexus’s signature L-Shaped daytime lights give the vehicle a more dynamic look.
The cabin is clear and design is simple with an ergonomic environment designed for ideal driving condition. The new driver seats are more comfortable and provide lateral support. The seat hip point and the steering wheel angle has been inspired by LFA and are positioned lower than the usual. The cabin materials have also seen refinement with new trims and finishes that are complemented by the advanced HMI technology and introduction of the analogue clock. The central console now features electrostatically controlled switches that just need a finger to control the air conditioning and temperature.
The new IS has now become lengthier and wider by 70mm and 10mm that allows Lexus to incorporate more comfort for the rear passengers and provide better luggage capacity. The increased wheelbase along with the thinner front seat provides best in class knee room. The rear seats can be folded in 60:40 split ratio. The IS 300h also features increased space as the battery is stationed below the boot deck.
In Europe, IS 250 will be housing a 204 bhp V6 petrol engine with rear wheel drive and Lexus Hybrid Drive system in the 300h that will play together with the electric motor and a newly made 2.5 litre 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine. The engine will feature D-4S fuel injection with Dual VVT-I intelligent variable valve timing with the output of about 217 bhp.
