Compact SUV segment is dragging biggies of the automotive horizon towards India and Volvo is not left for exception. The V40 ‘Cross Country’ which is higher by 40mm than the conventional V40 is said to make debut on Indian shores till 14th June 2013. This bit of information is shared by an industry insider, claiming that the bespoken model plated had started reaching dealerships and will make launch soon without wasting most of the time.

Speaking from the media intersection of various events, Tomas Ernberg, Managing Director for Volvo’s India operation said, V40 will be made available in India with two engine options namely 1.6 liter petrol and 2.0-liter diesel.

That is not it, the boffins at Autocar drove the India specific V40 Cross Country recently and revealed that 5 cylinder turbo diesel of 1948cc will be used to churn out 148bhp and 35.7 kgm of torque, all mated under the guise of 6 speed automatic gearbox. Looking at the bottom of ground clearance it stood neatly at 145mm whilst of other sophisticated bits on interiors, huge sunroof, graphic instrument cluster and many more smart features on board. The thing that had pinched us strongly underneath is ‘no AWD option on India spec model’. Must say, if targeted towards the youths then should see this option to be embedded at a very near future because the generation X is quite aggressive about this particular feature, as being addicted to rule off roads in the lap of luxury. Overall, V40 Cross Country will lock horns with Audi Q3 and BMW X1 in the rivaling zone with price tags nearing to Rs. 25 lakh and above.
