BMW Launches 2013 X1 In US: India Launch Likely In Late 2012

BMW has launched its 2013 X1 compact crossover rocket in the US. The German automobile major had unveiled the 2013 X1 at the New York Auto Show last month. It has overhauled the vehicle and launched it as the X1 for the MY 2013. For the moment, this crossover has been launched only in the US but it shall soon be available in other countries as well. The BMW X1 is the smallest crossover from BMW and has been available in many markets including India, Europe and several other countries for the past few years.

The 2013 BMW X1 crossover flaunts a revamped front bumper and split-grille, along with brand new headlamps housing and lustrous mirror housing. However, the cabin has seen minor changes with the addition of new upholstery, hues and trim options and lots of electroplated trim on the console and the shifter.

BMW is offering the X1 in two different options- the sDrive (rear-wheel drive) and the xDrive(all-wheel drive) option with the petrol variant. It is also offering two engine options- the X1 i28 and X1 i35- the former with a 4-cylinder engine and the latter with a 6-cylinder engine. The sDrive28i and xDrive28i are powered by a4-cylinder 2.0L petrol engine that churns out 240 PS and 353NM of torque. On the other hand, the X1 i35 offers the all-wheel-drive option only and is powered by a 6-cylinder engine that churns out 300PS power and 406 Nm torque.

If you’re a fan of BMW’s 6-speed manual transmission, you’re in for a bit of a disappointment since all variants in the X1 series will come with ZF-sourced 8-speedautomatic transmission. The Germany luxury car-maker will be offering two separate lines for the X1, the xLine and SportLine series along with the M Sport package in the United States.

Currently, the 2013 BMW X1 comes with the petrol fuel option only. But don’t worry, more fuel options will be offered as the car is launched in other countries. The diesel variant will be launched when the 2013 X1 is introduced in the European and Indian markets later this year.

The xDrive variant of the 2013 BMW X1 compact crossover, if launched in the Indian market, will compete with the Audi Q3 that comes with Audi’s trademark Quattro (the all wheel drive) option.
