The German luxury car maker, BMW has unveiled a high end very limited edition of its super popular sedan called M5. This high performance car has been named as the Nighthawk which is obviously due to its color scheme. The reason I call it a very limited edition car is because only 10 units of this car will be manufactured. What makes it even more exclusive is the fact that it has been designed and manufactured only for the Japanese market.

BMW has a long history to its name. The company actually began in the year 1916 as an aircraft engine manufacturing firm by Franz Joseph Popp. After the World war I in 1918, Versailles Armistice treaty was signed by the country. Various restrictions were imposed by this treaty, due to which BMW had to stop with its aircraft engine production. As a result of this, the company started manufacturing motorcycles in the year 1923 and began with automobile production in the year 1928. The first ever car manufactured by BMW was called Dixi. It was the launch of Dixi that finally established BMW in the automobile industry.

Talking about the BMW sedan M5, it is a high performance variant of the BMW 5 series. It was first launched in the year 1985 and was the fastest sedan in production at that time. The earlier models were hand built making use of a 535i chassis and a BMW 1 engine. The latest to join the M5 series is the F10 model which was launched in the year 2011 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This car has a V8 engine capable of giving a power output of 560 bhp. The standard model offers a top speed of 250 km/ hour and the transition from 0 to 100 km/ hour can be achieved in just 4.4 seconds.

BMW M5 Nighthawk
This new car, Nighthawk, gets its name from its aggressive body painted in frozen black scheme. The front fascia has the typical BMW kidney chromed grille. The car also has LED head lights as well as all alloy black wheels with a diameter of 20 inches. The side vents, 4 exhaust pipes, door handles have also been coated in deep black. The interior is perfectly designed to match the dark chrome exterior of the car. The interior has been given a two tone colour scheme. The seats have been provided with Merino leather seat covers as well as carbon fiber trim. The interiors also receive individually numbered badges.

This high performance sedan is powered by a V8 twin turbo engine having a fuel capacity of 4.4 liters. This engine is capable of churning out a maximum power of 575 bhp and a maximum torque of 680 Nm. The car offers an M-DCT 7 speed transmission. The car can reach the speed of 100 km/hour in just 4.2 seconds after start up.

To add to the exclusiveness of this Nighthawk, BMW has offered a competition package. This package includes sports clutch assembly and exhaust system, ceramic brakes, M dynamic mode, customizable suspension and a “Lane Departure Warning System”.

Only 10 units of this car will be produced and will be marketed only in Japan. This car therefore has quite a massive price tag of $181,800 which is around Rs 1.08 crores. If the demand for Nighthawk exceeds more than 10, then BMW will select the buyer with the help of a lottery.
