Chevrolet explains why Cruze is one of the ‘cleanest diesels’

Chevrolet had many of the hopes with Cruze in the markets wherever it is being launched. And hopefully the car is also returning the desired results to the carmaker whenever it is rolled out there on the road.

Targeted to the ample of audience, Chevrolet is making the mark of its bowtie by putting the price low and giving the cosmetics to that of the upmarket standard. No to wrong, smart Chevy logo and the beefy front grille makes it to lure customers due to its looks itself, drivetrain followed later on. Sometimes we feel front grille is giving the competition to Bentley too. Now coming to the point, as got born in America, Chevy had an image of gasoline driven vehicle for most of the time, but due to the ongoing trend it too is being compelled to step down on the diesel options. Hopefully, we Indians had received it during the initial aura of oil burning Cruze, where recently the Americans had also been bestowed after a quite late than many of the other markets. So as a result, to explain the plinth of diesel in brief, carmaker needs to explain its technology to those for accepting it in their fraternity. Well, the explanation now makes its way into our ‘buyers guide’ section too.

Powered by the 2.0L four cylinder diesel engine, it uses the CRDi technology to supply the fuel in the regarded slots, and produces max power of 163.7bhp @ 3800rpm with the maximum torque of 380Nm @ 2000rpm. Hence it is sufficed to give the 14-18 kmpl in the drives between city and highways. So the American (and Indian too) needs to be updated with what the cranking takes place inside the metal blocks is put to work.

The 2.0L displacement of Chevy has provided the each cylinder with two separate intake ports, out of which one of them is controlled by a valve. And when storm takes place inside the chamber the valve varies how much it opens to create mixture-motion of air and fuel within each one of them.

“Variable swirl helps put the ‘clean’ in Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel. It increases the mixture-motion of air and fuel in low-speed, low-load driving, like when you’re doing the commuter crawl to work every day,” explains Mike Siegrist, 2.0L turbo diesel assistant chief engineer.

“It contributes to Cruze Diesel’s great fuel economy, and helps give drivers the most torque for the least amount of fuel at the lowest emission and noise levels. All combustion engines have swirl, but having variable swirl is a real difference maker for Cruze’s diesel engine. Ultimately, it means more driving satisfaction with less environmental impact,” adds Mr. Siegrist.
