Ennore Port Ltd. signs agreement with Ford for export of cars

Ford and Ennore Port Ltd. have signed an agreement for exporting the cars of the company through the port. In the presence of G.K.Vasan, the Union Shipping Minister, M.A.Basharachar, the Managing Director and Ennore Port Chairman, exchanged the documents with Tom Chackalackal, Ford India Executive Director.

On this occasion, Vasan also pointed out that since September 2010, more than 4.49 lakh automobile units have been exported from Ennore port, which also included vehicles of Honda from Delhi, Toyota from Bangalore, Ashok Leyland from Chennai and Nissan. The new agreement that Ennore port has entered into with Ford will provide the company with its facilities for a period of 10 years. Ennore Port is also planning to sign an agreement with Indian Oil Corporation for LNG import storage, which would require an investment of 4,500 crore. The project is expected to be commissioned by 2017 with the LNG terminal capacity being 5 million metric tons per annum.

Soon the Indian ports will also be accessible by the children as Vasan said, so that they could see and learn how the ports function. However they would only be allowed to access it once a week. Ennore Port Ltd. is also awaiting the approval of the Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs for developing a new container at the terminal. This would require an investment of over 1,270 crores for which only Adnani and L&T have shown their interests till now. The project of a new container terminal is targeted by 2014 which would also be a multi cargo terminal.
