Ford Launches 1.5L EcoBoost Petrol Engine

The word “EcoBoost” sounds like one of the most accelerating factor in our industry and thanks to Ford for relieving us with this whole of line of sorts. Well the American carmaker doesn’t feel that same, therefore in sense of the addition they had launched one more displacement in the series and is fragmented as 1.5 liter EcoBoost.

To an extent one may say that Ford was already having the 1.6 liter in its kitty then why felt the need to roll out just another one with a mere less 100cc capacity. The answer says, some of the countries have regulations and terminologies which hold massive duties and taxes above the 1500cc displacement, so to make the things more lucrative in those regions automaker had taken this footing step for now.

Just to add an informative bit, at present EcoBoost family consists of 1.0L, 1.5L, 1.6L, 2.0L, and 3.5L to name best in petrol powerplants.

The freshly baked 1.5 liter holds that same award winning 1.0 liter reclining aluminum block and twin-cam, as it helps to gain better fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emission with the similar horsepower and torque of that bigger sibling 1.6 liter EcoBoost. The signature (EcoBoost) turbocharging, direct fuel injection and variable valve timing makes contribution towards high level of performance, quietness and refinement  in the metal. Talking so much about the enhancement, Ford had also delivered figures in terms of 20%-better fuel efficiency and a 15%-reduced emission to prove its mettle in the most adored range of development.

Naming some of the applications in brief, it will be first introduced in China on Ford Mondeo, to be followed by Fusion sedan in North America and then later on new Mondeo in Europe.

Newbies mean something freshly charged tweaks on them, and the 1.5 liter is also not left for an exception. A computer-controlled clutch on belt drive water pump is said to be a first of its kind from Ford, employed to reduce warm-up time and bring in efficiency in the procedure.

To slate more of the claims on its bucket, Ford had sold more than 600,000 EcoBoost equipped vehicles, whereas the lastly launched 1.0 liter had won them “International Engine of the Year” award, which is also learnt, most of the company models will now be tuned to EcoBoost family by the end of this year. On a very exclusive note, 1.0 liter EcoBoost is the same that EcoSport is soon going to dwell underneath for first time on Indian shores.

Concluding on whole strata, Joe Bakaj, vice president, powertrain engineering for Ford said, “Ford EcoBoost technology has changed the way people look at gas engines and has enjoyed huge success with customers,” sounding true in all the sense.
