Due to the hike in petrol and diesel prices, the American automaker General Motors is thinking of Chevrolet Beat Electric in India. But the constant change in government policy over the auto sector has stopped General Motors from launch the car. Chevrolet is ready to launch the car, but they are waiting for the government norms for such type of cars and they hope that there will be low duty levied by the government on these cars.
The officials of General Motors said that the infrastructure for these types of electric vehicles in India is not up to the mark as yet and government must improve the charging point infrastructure of these eco-friendly vehicles.
Chevrolet Beat has been showed many a time before. Previously General Motors worked with REVA to bring out an electric car, but Mahindra took over Reva and the tie up broke up. Later on General Motors, in collaboration with Pan Asia Technical Automotive Centre, brought the new Beat Electric. Chevrolet Beat Electric has maximum output of 60 BHP and goes 100km on a single charge of its battery, but for the American Market an engine of 114 BHP will be fitted to the car. Mahindra, on the other hand, plans to launch the REVA NXR in the last quarter of 2012. If the REVA NXR is launched then it will compete with the Beat Electric. The expected price will be around Rs.4.5 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
