The report says that Japanese auto maker Honda is going to make a big splash in 2013 with the launch of Honda Brio diesel compact sedan in Indian market. After being troubled by two natural disasters in 2011,the company is now on the verge of a turnaround in fortunes. It is expected that the Brio compact sedan will compete Maruti Dzire compact and Tata indigo ECS.
The Honda Brio diesel compact sedan is expected to be powered by a downsized version of the 1.6 Litre i-DTEC turbo diesel engine that Honda has begun using on the likes of the 2012 Honda Civic and the 2013 Honda CR-V, in the European market, which is liked most in India.
It seems that in the mid of October, Honda is expected to launch its automatic variant of the Brio Hatch. It will be expensive by around 60K to 70K than the current offering. Also, after this the company will launch a CNG version of its best selling city saloon. The bigger news is that Honda is up and ready to setup a diesel engine for India. The saloon version of the Honda Brio will be the first car in India.
A new motor has been discovered that derives it genes from the 1.6 litre diesel engine and it has been sent to the Europe in the Civic on sale earlier this year. Either 1.4 litre or 1.5 litre engine has been invented for the Indian market. It will also be exported from here for the other markets. Majority of the engine components will be made in India.
The size of the engine matters too, which is measured under 4-meters and classified as a small car in India. It is said that the Indian government levies the lower excise tax on small cars. In order to avail the benefit of lower excise duty, the cars need to have the petrol engines which measures under the 4 meter length.
Therefore, it can be presumed that the 2013 Honda Brio compact sedan’s engine in petrol and diesel will be measured under 1.2 liters and 1.5 liters respectively. It will also be good to assume that the Brio compact sedan will take it onto the hatchback model. It has been heard that Honda Brio has been testing the diesel engine of Brio hatchback in India for past few months. Consequently, it can be a distinct possibility to the launch a diesel engine by the April 2013.
