As has been expected for quite some time, Mahindra & Mahindra has finally announced the decision of increasing the price of its Mahindra XUV500 effective from the 1st of January, 2012. Multiple factors were responsible for increasing the price of this hot selling Mahindra vehicle. First of all, the initial pricing of Rs.10.8 Lakh on this vehicle was just an introductory offer. Secondly, the costs of raw materials have increased tremendously for the car maker due to the direct impact of the depreciation of Indian Rupee against the Euro and Dollar.
The price increase that Mahindra has proposed differs on the basis of variants. As per ex-showroom price in Delhi, the W6 variant is expected to increase by Rs.30,000 whereas the W8-FWD is increasing by Rs.50,000. The W8-AWD variant has been hiked by Rs.55,000.
In a special gesture, the car maker from India has however restricted the price increase to just 50% for those customers, who have already made bookings of the car, but have not yet been delivered the same. The production schedule of the Mahindra XUV500 is moving according to plan. The auto maker is also working on increasing the production capability of its Chakan plant. This will enable the company to restart the process of taking bookings of the car from January 2012.
Since its launch, the XUV500 has been subject to tremendous adulation from the consumers as well as auto experts. It has also been the recipient of multiple awards. ET–Zigwheels conferred it two awards as the best car as well as for the SUV of the year. In the award ceremony organized by the leading auto magazine, Top Gear, the XUV again walked away with the title of best SUV of the year along with the award of the most preferred car among the magazine readers. Even in the NDTV Awards 2012, the car got awarded as the best SUV of the year.
