Mercedes-Benz India, launched AMG’s latest offspring- The A 45 AMG S 4Matic+. Mercedes-AMG has been boasting about the small displacement but huge power figures this newly developed engine has to offer.
Considering it’s an AMG, let’s directly start by popping the hood. The A 45 AMG is powered by a 2.0 L Inline Four engine with twin bearing turbochargers. These turbochargers help the engine to boast a power figure of 421 HP and 500 Nm of torque. This AMG hatchback, matches the monstrous power figures of the Straight-6 & V8 performance engines from Germany. Being a hot hatch with less weight, it also manages to beat a few performance sedans by clocking a 0-100 time in 3.9 seconds. Although Illegal on Indian Expressways, if you can find a track for yourself and your AMG, the German hot hatch can clock an electronically limited top speed of 270 km/h.
The engine comes mated with 8-Speed AMG Dual Clutch transmission and an all wheel drive powertrain, the 4Matic+. Without one, it would have been impossible to use each horsepower wisely with a loose front end with smoking tires. The hot hatch uses an AMG Torque Control feature, to distribute the power and torque between the front and rear differentials on the basis of grip levels.
The A 45 AMG offers six driving modes, Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport +, Individual & Race. It also gets a launch control feature which goes by the name of Race Start, providing the most optimum acceleration for a launch from standstill.
The best and unique part of the hot hatch is the availability of a Drift mode, which allows the rear end of the hatch to lose some grip and perform powerslides.
However all these fancy features and high power figures come with a very high price tag of Rs. 79.50 Lakhs (ex-showroom). The A 45 AMG is definitely priced on a higher side considering its hatchback segment, but the power figure and the tools that the hatch offers to control it, might not seem like a bad deal. Considering such similar powered german performance cars have a minimum price tag of crore rupees in India..
