It is not the luxury riches demand to travel in. The safety is also very important for them. Not the ordinary road safety gear is talked about here. Additional loads of metal, extra thick doors and bullet proof glass – called as armoured version – is somewhat that matters for them when talked about the ‘safety’.
German carmakers knowing their clients very well brings such a model to market that looks after the needs of VVIPs and other personalities or diplomats of such importance to make some good cash. Followed by the launch of new S-Class, Benz is reported to launch the armoured version of same called ‘S 600 Guard’ in India on May 21, 2015.
On the first glimpse, it will point no difference between the standard and the armoured version. It is only when the owners will touch it, or would open the doors, will let them feel more secured. On the specific note, S 600 Guard offers safety of VR9-level certification, which in general is handsome as per the norms of civilians. To say that more precisely, the car can withstand 7.62x51mm rifle rounds fired from various angles around the body. To make that more affirmative, it uses various steels in between the body and outer structure which makes up for this strength. Even synthetic fibres (heat-resistant) are used to protect occupants from projectiles drawn at them. Other amazing features include automatic fire suppression tech, emergency fresh air system to take care in case of smoke, and hydraulic side windows.
The glasses used on windows are thickly laminated with polycarbonate coat for the more purposeful ballistics protection, whereas underbody armour guard protects the VIPs in case of blast.
Interiors of S 600 Guard is a host of all tranquilities found on the regular S-Class, but offers option of four-five seat where the clients can choose depending up the needs.
In the engine bay, S 600 armoured version offers drive from a 6.0-litre V12 engine producing 530bhp and 830Nm of torque mated to the carmaker’s own 7G-TRONIC auto gearbox. Despite the decent power output, it will not reach top-speed beyond 210km/h because of certain restrictions due to the added weight of car. And to lug that much weight around engineers designed the AIRMATIC suspension with beefed up strength and stiffer as well as reinforced dampers.
