Mercedes-Benz is currently conducting a feasibility study in order to launch a series of small cars under the name of ‘X-Class’. Expected to be based on the Renault Clio platform, the car will be seated under the A-Class. Bringing 3.1 stakes to each other in the year 2010, Daimler and Renault-Nissan were part of a strategic alliance.

Powered by two different sets of engines, 1.0 litre 3-cylinder mill and a 1.5 litre 4-cylinder mill, the cars shall be available in 3 different variants comprising a hatchback, a crossover and a sedan. Expectation is that at least one of the variants will be turbocharged.

Though the company is making all efforts to make sure the car maintains a classy-modern look and has the features defining it as a Mercedes-Benz. In order to keep cost of these cars low, the manufacturing will definitely be done in a low-cost country. There are expectations that the price of the car will be kept somewhere around US $25,000.

Mercedes X-Class coming in 2018

These cars are expected to give competition to the BMW-1 series and the Audi A1. Now, the most daunting question is that whether this car will be brought to India or not. For now, it seems that it could be brought to India.

Owing to the car’s introduction date being so far away, it’s tough to precisely predict where the automotive business will be in the year 2018 or what technologies will be readily accessible, but early conjecture hints that it’ll come equipped with a 1-liter 3-cylinder or 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine.
