Hi-Bird launched luxury ricks for European markets

Ludhiana based, Hi-Bird bicycle maker, has developed a luxury rickshaw for the European and US markets.

Costing around Rs 1.5lacs to Rs 2lacs, the rickshaws are completely aluminum based, unlike the traditional iron-steel based rickshaws. The 21-speed rickshaw was developed in the manufacturing unit in Ludhiana, and the company is targeting a sale of 500 units in the next financial year.

RD Sharma, Managing Director of Hi-Bird Group, said, “The high-priced rickshaws are meant only for the niche markets and will be used for high-end tourism and hospitality sector of overseas markets.”

With an in-house R&D facility and a top-notch manufacturing unit, the company already produces aluminum-based bicycles priced Rs 6,000 – Rs 20,000. The firm announces that it will launch the rickshaws for the Indian market priced between Rs 25,000 – Rs 30,000.

“The rickshaw for Indian market is steel-based, which will be suitable for Indian conditions. We will target country’s major tourist destinations like Taj Mahal and Golden Temple for marketing our product,” he said.

Executive Director of the group, Suresh Sharma, said the company has a manufacturing capacity of 20 lac bicycles per year and the business is spread over 50 countries.
