The strikes at Maruti’s Manesar plant entered their eleventh day in what is turning to be Maruti’s biggest ever crisis. The striking workers want the company to reinstate the 11 sacked employees.

The company did agree to rescind suspension of the 5 sacked employees two days ago, boosting the chances that the strike will end soon. The Maruti Suzuki Employees Union’s General Secretary, Shiv Kumar said that they should take back all of the fired employees. So far the largest car manufacturer in India has suffered production losses of around 9,000 units, with total revenue losses amounting to INR 450 crore.

Talks for putting an end to the strike began led by the labour minister of Haryana, SC Sharma with new meetings held with the representative of the workers and the management at Maruti, however there has been no solution so far. The company has also not provided any information regarding the negotiations; however they said that many options were worked out.

A senior executive of Maruti, said that they are looking at the demands of the workers sympathetically and will resolve most issues soon. Workers in the other auto factories of this industrial belt that includes Daruhera Plant of Hero Honda, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, Rico Auto, Satyam Auto and Endurance Auto had also a 2 hour tool down protest yesterday morning.

The unions are aiming to create awareness in workers in this auto hub regarding the Maruti workers’ plight. The General Secretary of the workers union at HMSI, Harjeet Grover, said that they are all geared to show their support to the government of Haryana and the management at Maruti, with their tool down strike that will help to determine future action.
