Mercedes Benz India is all set to launch the new GLE come October 14, 2015. This will be a new luxury model from the brand and is being regarded as a revised and updated edition of the ML-Class which is being done away with.
In terms of design, the GLE looks somewhat similar to the ML, but has the new Mercedes look about it. This means that the car has an aerodynamic and angular look and looks refreshing and updated.
The interiors too have seen a bit of change. There have been upgrades and it definitely looks even classier than before. There is a new display for the infotainment system, the 3-spoke steering wheel looks sportier and the air vents have been redesigned as well.
In addition to this, Mercedes will also offer the GLE with a nine-speed auto transmission as compared to the older seven-speed gearbox.
It is likely that the car will come with two engine options here in India. One is expected to be the 3-litre V6 diesel which delivers 258bhp of power and the other, the 2-litre four-cylinder diesel which has an output capability of 203bhp. The car though will be mated to a new 9-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox which is a welcome change and will also make this the first car in India from Mercedes to come with this transmission option.
The GLE will take on the Audi Q7 and BMW X5 in what is fast becoming an ultra competitive segment.
