The next Porsche was to be named ‘Cajun’. However, after the release of the official sketches of the next Porsche SUV, it clear that it was just a project title. This next baby SUV by Porsche is named ‘Macan‘. It has been adopted from the Indonesian name for ‘tiger’, a rather ferocious name to be given to a baby SUV. Seems Porsche wants to make statement in the industry with the coming of its next SUV.

The new off-roader is promised the combination of suppleness, power, fascination and dynamics. Never mind the sketch making it look more like its elder brother, Cayenne, with the sleek sporty appearance. If you believe the sketch, it does have enormous wheels adding to the sporty appeal of the SUV. Looking at the A-pillar and C-pillar, it does follow the traits of coupe, so you can expect a combination of Cayenne and Panamara.

New Porsche SUV to be named 'Macan'Production starting in 2013, the Porsche Macan will be built in Porsche’s Leipzig factory, that has an investment of 320crore, making it a vital project in the Porsche line up. It is expected to be built on the Audi Q5 platform and double the Porsche sales. Given the success of Cayenne in India, Macan is probably in line too after its launch in late 2013 or early 2014.

“The Macan combines all sports car characteristics with the benefits of a SUV and is genuine Porsche” said Bernhard Maier, member of executive board of sales and marketing, Porsche AG. “The name of the new Porsche has to fit with the brand, sound good in very many languages and dialects and evoke positive associations.”
