Volkswagen Vento & Skoda Rapid to get a sister sedan in 2013 Seat Toledo

The Geneva Motor Show 2012 witnessed many upcoming cars and concepts which attracted eyeballs from every single visitor to the event. One such concept was exhibited by Spanish car maker, Seat. Being a part of the Volkswagen group, Seat didn’t lag anywhere behind to exhibit quality concept at the Geneva Motor Show 2012. The latest generation of Toledo’s production version has finally been unveiled, concept of which (as exhibited in the event) was thinly disguised.

After carrying out a bit of research on the leaked pictures of the sedan, it can easily be found that Toledo sits as the sister model of Volkswagen Vento and the Skoda Rapid. Although, both the sedans (Vento and Rapid) have different front and rear outlook along with different wheel designs, it’s the design philosophyused in both of them that distinguish them from others. Same is the case with Toledo too.

The latest generation Seat Toledo Mk4 stands a bit distinguished as compared to the Toledo Mk2. While the Toledo Mk2’s length is 4,480mm, the Toledo Mk4 is about 40mm longer in length compared to it. Increased dimensions have been made a common factor to be considered. For example, the wheelbase too has been increased by 82mm than the previous 2,602mm.

Engine specs too have been made variable, so as to give users a range of choices to choose from. Petrol version of the car will either have a 1.2L or 1.4L turbocharged engines capable of churning out a peak power somewhere between 74bhp and 121bhp. However, standard manual gearbox is available. There will be another provision where the engine will be coupled with a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission. As far as the diesel avatar is concerned, a 1.6L TDI engine (capable of producing 103bhp) will be used. From 2013, the engine will produce an output of 90bhp.

The safety features too have equally been considered as any other upgraded features in the Toledo Mk4. Airbags (front, side & head/thorax) for drivers and passengers, central locking, two piece folding rear backrest and front power windows have been indispensably included in the new generation sedan.

The new generation 2013 Seat Toledo sedan is being anticipated to be first launched in Spain and Portugal by November this year. Other European markets will be the next on the cards for the launch of this car, which will finally be followed by the car hitting the markets across the globe. The launch in the international market is speculated to happen in 2013. It mustnot be forgotten that the Spanish car maker has vital presence and influence in markets such as Germany, Mexico and Turkey.
