The much talked about and anticipated SUV from Force Motors, the Force One has been finally launched today. The occasion was graced with the presence of Big B Amitabh Bachchan and the Firodias. An all new for a homegrown product, the Force One gets daytime running lamps, projector head lamps and also reverse parking sensors as standard. Moreover, the company has done the unthinkable by putting up only one variant for sale in the market. Sadly enough, this standard version lacks ABS and Force Motors Passenger Vehicle Division is thinking of bringing in an ABS equipped vehicle by December 2012. Also, there is an all new Multi Purpose vehicle coming up by the company in 2013-2014. Mr Prasan Firodia made it very clear that the company wouldn’t venture into the small car segment anytime even in the future.
While the Force One SUV boasts of having a 2.2 liter Crdi motor which is being borrowed from Mercedes. This 2.2 liter unit has an output of 141 Ps and 325 Nm of torque. A 5 speed manual gearbox sourced from Mercedes is also part of the package. Mr Firodia was however elusive when questioned on how come a Mercedes powerplant can be available in a sub Rs 11 lakhs car. This SUV though boasts of class leading space in its interiors and though there were no mentions of who exactly the competition would be, hints say that the Toyota Innova, Tata Safari, Tata Aria 4×2 and also the Mahindra Scorpio are the targets. Also, this is a 4×2 version and by 2012 end, there would be a 4×4 variant as well in the market.
The Force One SUV would initially be distributed via 25 new dealers who wouldn’t be a part of the commercial vehicles that the company deals in. Moreover, the SUV would be available at those show rooms only towards September 2011. The man instrumental behind the design of this car was also present at the do. A new C in C chassis forms the backbone of this SUV. How well the market responds to a Force SUV remains to be seen in the times to come.
