2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA & AMG GLA 35 Launched In India: Prices Start At Rs 42.10 Lakh

Mercedes-Benz India has launched the GLA and the AMG GLA 35 SUVs in the country. The prices for the 2021 GLA starts at Rs 41.10 lakh, ex-showroom (India). The deliveries of the GLA are expected to begin soon in states not affected by the Covid-19 lockdown.


The company was expected to launch the new GLA in April 2021. However, the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic had forced the brand to move the launch to this month. The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA is available in a couple of trim levels. This includes the 200A Progressive Line, 220d Progressive Line, 220d 4Matic AMG Line and the range-topping GLA 35 4Matic.

The Mercedes-Benz GLA 220d retails at Rs 43.7 lakh, while the GLA 220d 4Matic is priced at Rs 46.7 lakh. Finally, the AMG GLA 35 4Matic Rs 57.3 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom (India). The AMG GLA 35 is arriving at the Indian shores as the CKD unit. It now becomes the third AMG model that is being assembled in India. Also, the company has announced that all prices are introductory and will be hiked by Rs 1.5 lakh starting from July 2021.

While the AMG GLA 35 features the Panamericana grille with prominent vertical slats, a new roof spoiler, larger wheels and bigger exhaust tips and a whole host of AMG badges inside and out.

The GLA 200 will be powered by a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine. It produces a maximum of 161bhp at 5500rpm and a peak torque of 250Nm between 1620rpm and 4000rpm. The power is sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed DCT. The GLA 200A can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 8.7 seconds and continue to reach a top speed of 210kmph.

On the other hand, the 200d and 200d 4Matic are powered by the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine. It produces a maximum of 189bhp at 3800rpm and a peak torque of 400Nm between 1600rpm and 2600rpm; mated to an 8-speed DCT. Only the 200d AMG Line trim will be offered with the brand’s 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. The 200d and the 200d 4Matic can accelerate from a standstill to 100kmph in 7.4 seconds and 7.3 seconds, respectively. However, the 200d is rated for a higher top speed of 222kmph as compared to the 220d 4Matic’s 219kmph.

The top-spec AMG GLA 35 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. It produces a maximum of 304bhp and a peak torque of 400Nm; mated to an eight-speed DCT. The AMG can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 5.1 seconds and hit a top speed of 250kmph.

Like most Mercedes-Benz cars, the GLA feature a large slab of glass for the instrument cluster and the infotainment system seamless integrated next to each other. Two 10.25-inch screens provide a whole host of details and are highly customizable as well. Speaking about the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, it features the brand latest form of MBUX voice assistant technology and wireless phone connectivity such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

It also features a Mercedes Me-connect for enhanced safety and convenient features. It enabled users to remotely control the In-car functionalities right from the comfort of their homes through voice assistances like Alexa and Google Home. Other features include a panoramic sunroof, turbine-style AC vents, wireless smartphone charging, a multifunctional steering wheel, climate control, ambient lighting and a Mercedes Pre-Safe safety package, among others.

The company is also offering a class-leading 8-year warranty on Engine and Transmission in addition to the 3-year Comprehensive warranty. The service cost of the GLA ranges between Rs 61,200 and 73,200 depending on the variant.
