GM India Plans on Hiring an Additional 400 Individuals at Halol Plant

As GM India slowly tries to increase their presence in the Indian auto market, the company recently reported about expanding production capacity at both their production plants, according to recent news, the company now plans to hire around 400 people to go along with their growth strategy.

GM India will hire 400 more employees by next year for their manufacturing facility in Halol, Gujarat. Currently the Halol manufacturing facility has around1,800 employees. The company plans to make an investment of more than INR 2,200 crores or $500mn by 2012 end for increasing their production capacities at existing plants in Talegaon, Maharashtra and Halol, Gujarat.

The company’s managing director and president, Karl Slym was quoted as saying that they are looking forward to adding an additional 400 employees for steering their expansion strategy that have envisioned for their manufacturing facility in Halol. They would be employing people across various profiles, however they are looking for employees whose work profile is connected mostly to automobile manufacturing processes.

They are also planning on launching new products by next year that will are to be manufactured at their facility in Halol. They will also be adding an additional shift to their existing two shifts to keep up that they have in Halol.

GM India plans to hire about 1,000 individuals overall by 2012 to keep up with their expansion strategy. Where their Halol facility is concerned, GM India has decided to increase the production capacity to 1,10,000 units from the current 85,000 units. Aside from the company’s Chevrolet Beat Diesel, launched recently in the Indian auto market, the company had also announced that they plan to enter the market of LCV’s by starting to manufacturer them by 2012’s second half.

They are also in the middle of manufacturing stumping facility that is to be operational from next year onwards so that they can manufacture steel parts by themselves. The company will manufacture LCVs from their manufacturing facility in Halol, while they also plan on launching a new vehicle from this plant. They have an advantage to have a manufacturing centre in this place, as it this place has a larger supply base, which is beneficial to them.
