Hyundai launched Xcent today in India for a starting price of Rs 4.66 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) in petrol variant. The diesel powered Xcent costs Rs 5.56 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

On the cosmetic front, it is the sedan version of Grand i10, which was launched in 2013 and is also sold in more than 62,000 numbers till date. In fact, the Korean carmaker too is hoping some astonishing results from its new entry-level sedan because of the rival like Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, to an extent Fiat Linea seem whirling in cool numbers from the industry.

Engine planted in the belly of Hyundai Xcent is the same to that of its younger sibling i10 Grand. Petrol trims comes powered with the 1.2 litre 4-cylinder engine developing 83PS at 6,000 rpm and 114Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The diesel unit is packed by 1.1-litre 3-cylinder unit developing 1PS more than the Grand i10 – 72 PS at 4,000 rpm and more torque of 20Nm at 180Nm between a lower 1,500-2,500 rpm band.

On the fuel-economy, petrol Xcent delivers efficiency of 19.1kmpl wherein diesel chisels 24.4kmpl as per ARAI.

Saved for the last, 5-speed transmission remains standard on all the variants of both the fuel-trims, but those who wanted to grow up to automatic then carmaker has given the liberty only to “petrol” buyers!  Diesel owners may have to wait for some more time to get the market conditioned by automatic transmission composed for the smaller cabins.

We believe, Hyundai have got a winner on its hand if it launched diesel automatic on the Xcent, which it wasn’t advised to do so on Grand. And if that happens, then the Koreans will enjoy monopoly in these carracks.

15-inch alloys, unlike the 14-inch heels of i10 Grand, and 407 liters of boot space were retained to conclude this post.
