India’s largest manufacturer of passenger cars, Maruti Suzuki, recently announced that their WagonR model had crossed the 1mn mark in sales, since its release in the year 1999. According to recent reports, the company’s fourth models in their portfolio, the WagonR recently crossed the 1mn sales mark.

The company’s best selling Alto, their family car Maruti 800 and their multipurpose van Omni have been some of their models to have achieved this feat in the past. The chief GM marketing of Maruti Suzuki, Shashank Srivastava was quoted as saying that this was quite a proud moment for them and gave them a lot of happiness as this milestone was accomplished in the domestic market.

According to reports, the WagonR was the country’s second largest selling car after the Maruti Alto model. Srivastava said that after the new WagonR was launched sales for the car began to rise further. Currently they sell around 15,000 models of the car per month. The best selling model from Maruti, the Alto sells around 30,000 models per month.

The car which received a lot of modifications was completely redone last year. Maruti invested around Rs.290 crore before they introduced the new model WagonR which is currently priced around Rs.3.36 lakh to Rs.4.24 lakh according to ex-showroom Delhi. The company however, did not export the hatchback and do not have any plans about doing so.

According to reports, MSI currently sells their 998cc model in LPG, CNG and petrol versions. In 2010-2011, Maruti managed to sell around 1.63 lakh models of WagonR. The car which was released in 1999, sold around 5,902 models in its first production year. Maruti has achieved its fastest growth ever in the last fiscal year.
