Mitsubishi Motors India have launched their best selling premium SUV, the Mitsubishi Montero with a BS 4 engine upgrade and have tagged it the Mitsubishi Montero BS 4. The new Mitsubishi Montero BS 4 comes with body colored front and rear bumpers and also new side skirts. The interiors still feature the old leather interiors from the previous generation SUV.

There are also some new features like the first in class, ultrasonic sensors for safety purposes. There are also reverse parking sensors as well as reverse parking camera added to the fare. The major change is under the hood. The Mitsubishi Montero BS 4 still persists with the old 3200cc, turbo diesel engine. It however now gets a bigger turbocharger as well as some other modifications in the engine bay and a catalytic converter in the tail pipe to comply with the BS 4 emission norms. The old Mitsubishi Montero will still sell in grade 2 cities and villages where the emission norms aren’t in effect yet. The upgraded engine now produces power to the tune of 199.28 Bhp, which is a significant 37 Bhp over the older engine. Torque is now a huge 432 Nm or 45 Kgm and this power is made at 2000 rpm. This is a significant improvement of 42 Nm or 5.9 Kgm of torque over the older version of the 3.2 liter engine. This means that Mitsubishi Montero BS 4 will now be more driveable both in the city as well as be long legged on the highway. Putting down power to the road is a full time all wheel drive system. The gearbox in the Mitsubishi Montero BS 4 is a 5 speed automatic and which is smooth in its operation. There is also a 5 speed manual transmission for those who hate auto transmissions.

Now, the Mitsubishi Montero was always a good package as regards the ride and handling was concerned. This hasn’t changed for the BS 4 edition. That it has won almost all of the grueling Paris-Dakar rallies is testimony of its sturdiness and reliability. All these modifications to the engine have only made the prices for the Mitsubishi Montero BS 4 go up marginally by Rs.20,000. It now retails at Rs. 38.95 lakhs {Ex-showroom, Delhi}.
