Mumbai International Auto Show 2011

What a show it was. Agreed that it lacked the flair of the Delhi Auto Expo but then due credit must be given to the organizers and magazine partners. Yes, I am talking about the Mumbai International Auto Show 2011 which was held in the Bandra Kurla complex. We at Indiandrives as a team were present at the show. In 2010, when this team wasn’t in place, I personally had visited the show along with my sister and had taken many pictures, conducted enquiries and even ended up booking the Maruti Ritz Vxi(only to cancel the booking 3 days later). This time around, the ambience was a bit different.

To start off with, the Mumbai International Auto Show 2011 was used as a promotion ground by Bollywood. The cast and crew of the to be released movie, Dil to Bachha Hai Jee were present in full force. This included lead actors Emraan Hashmi, Ajay Devgn, Shazahn Padamsee, Omi Vaidya, Shraddha Das, Shruti Hassan and Tisca Chopra. The film’s director, Madhur Bhandarkar was also present at the do. The event was inaugurated at the hands of Mr.Ajay Devgn and Zigwheels Editor, Adil Jal Darukhanwala.

There were many cars as well as bikes displayed. There were many vintage cars as well. I queued up first for the bikes section, it been my natural favorite. There were 4 halls in all for the program plus a dirt track for aficionados to check out the new Mahindra Thar in its natural domain. Honda as always had the simulator for those wanting a fool proof method of enjoying bikes without a license and to perfect their skills. Honda also had the “slowest bike” thing going on with their range of small scooters and bikes in India. This event started on 21st January 2011 and ended on 23rd January 2011. All three days, yours truly was present at the venue and was gauging the response of the public. Mumbaites are definitely thrilled to have a show amongst them and which promises to have all the thrills of the Delhi show in a small way. There was also a place for those tuners as well as sound pioneers. One could even walk into the audio stall and check out the various aural delights hanging around. Check out the various sections which I have covered and which would be updated shortly on the website.
