VW Jetta going to be the most fuel-efficient car in its segment?

Volkswagen was making India wait. While mixed signal went out to the Indian consumers as to when the petrol variants of Jetta and Passat would be introduced, speculations have now been laid to rest.

While Volkswagen have decided to launch the petrol variants of the Passat and Jetta, the cars will be powered by a lesser 1.4 TSI engine instead of the 1.8 one. Taking a closer look at the dynamics of this engine, we find that the 1.4 liter engine is turbocharged producing 120 BHP and a maximum torque of 201 Nm, much lesser than the 1.8 liter engine which produces 160 BHP and a torque of 250 Nm.

Volkswagen Jetta in India
It is the first time that Indian consumers will be driving the 1.4 liter TSI engine. Though the power of the car is lower than the 1.8 liter engine, it promises to be more fuel efficient, and the price would be relatively on the lower side. There are bound to be copycat versions in other models as well with Skoda and Audi preferring this engine for their Laura and A3 models respectively.

This engine has a smaller displacement with a unique blend of reasonable power and lower manufacturing costs. This is good news for the potential customer as on road prices would be lower. The Jetta Petrol Variant will surely give its Diesel sibling a run for its money. The Volkswagen Jetta is set to be in competition with Honda Civic, Renault Fluence and the Toyota Corolla Altis.
