2013 McLaren 12C Spider Convertible Sports has its debut

For the first time, the 2013 McLaren 12C Spider Convertible Sports has been released in public at the Gooding & Company Auction preview at Pebble Beach this weekend though the digitally it was shown about 6 weeks back. The new 12C Spider has high power engine of 616 bhp while the body is light. It has a Retractable Hard Top folding roof system which could be easily lowered or raised while the car is moving. There is a carbon ‘Monocell’ chasis similar to that of the ground-breaking 12C coupe. The new 12C Spider will have the price 95,500 in UK and the orders are getting booked from McLaren retailers throughout the world. The first deliveries would be made earlier next year. at the Gooding & Company Auction preview at Pebble Beach , the 12C Spider was showcased with a drop of Kabuki in front of a number of VIP guests. Painted in new volcano yellow paint 12C Spider will be displayed continuously along with the 12C GT3 Can-Am edition concept.

Performance

The new 12C Spider has bespoke 3.8 litre V8 twin-turbo engine and has 7-speed SSG dual-clutch transmission thus it has an output of 616 bhp. This vehicle offers full comfort for driving with Brake Steer, ProActive Chasis Control conditions and unique McLaren Airbrake. The performance and track handling is superb and not compromised at all.

Technical specification

McLaren is the pioneer in using carbon fiber.  First time in 1981, McLaren used the carbon fiber monocoque chasis in Formula 1 when it launched MP4/1 race car and the legendary McLaren F1 was introduced along with the advanced composite technology which was new to the automobile world. While developing the ground-breaking one piece molded chasis of 12C, the McLaren Automotive engineers used the carbon fiber expertise. There is no additional strengthening needed for its 165 lb ‘MonoCell’ in the 12C Spider. As a result s sports car got introduced which has the similar performance as its fixed roof equivalent and weighs only 88 lbs more and has a convertible roof system.

The rear windscreen can be lowered or raised electronically. As the roof is lowered, this automatic opening serves as wind deflector so that the occupants of the car get least disturbed. When the roof is raised, the rear window can be lowered; the thrilling noise of V8 twin turbo engine in new 12C Spider will be spread within the cabin. When the roof is raised, the area under the tonneau can be used as an additional luggage area and can be used as the storage space. Two soft bags can fit this space and these are supplied with every 12C Spider. There is a passive Roll Over Protection System so that the occupant’s safety could be maximized. Each buttress has a steel structure that is designed to absorb impact energy and could protect the driver and passenger very well.
