2013 Mercedes Benz SL65 AMG 45th Anniversary special edition announced

Founded in 1967 by Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, AMG has served as a producer of high-performance vehicles. On its 45th Anniversary, Mercedes-Benz has a special way to treat with a special edition car.

Mercedes took the opportunity at the 2012 New York Auto show to unveil the SL65 AMG 45th Anniversary Edition, ahead of its official launch in September.

Designed to be the ultimate roadster, the special edition has exclusive designo magno graphite paint as well as carbon fiber trim on the mirrors and spoilers. There’s also a carbon fiber / aluminum engine cover, a sports exhaust system in black with chrome plating and AMG wheels with a titanium grey finish.

The interior features distinctive leather upholstery, matte carbon fiber trim and alloy pedals. The center console also has an individually number plaque that says “45th ANNIVERSARY – X OF 45.” Other highlights include a Bang & Olufsen audio system, a COMAND Online infotainment system, AMG performance steering wheel and Airscarf seats.

Under the hood is a 6.0-liter biturbo V12 engine that churns out a ground shattering 621 hp and 1000 Nm of thrust. Mated to the biturbo motor is an AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic transmission, which pulls the 1950 kg roadster to accelerations from dead to 100 kmph in 4.0 seconds. Moreover, its top speed is electronically-limited 250 kmph . With all the horsepower and dirty mean engine, the SL65 AMG gives a fuel economy of 8.6 kmpl and an emission figure of CO2 as 270 g/km.

Production will be limited to 45 units and pricing will be announced closer to its launch in September.
