Audi A3 sedan for India is set for launch by mid 2014. It will come in with a very competitive price tag for its base variant because it will be introduced as a CKD from the launch day, unlike in other case cases where automaker introduced first CBUs (completely built units) and then moved on to CKD (completely knock down unit). This would allow the automaker to price the new sedan aggressively against its forthcoming rivals. Showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo this year, the forthcoming A3 sedan is aimed at becoming the best selling luxury vehicle in India.
The all-new Audi A3 sedan is produced from the company facility in Gyor, Hungary for global consumption; while it is produced at the Foshan facility in China for local markets. For India, it will be produced at their Aurangabad facility. Placed below A4, the entry level luxury sedan, the A3 will be available in both petrol and diesel variants.
The A3 sedan will have an overall width of 1.8m and length of 4.46 m. It will offer a boot space of 425 liters and possess curb weight of 1250kgs. Motivation for the A3 will come from a 1.8 liter TFSI powerplant, which is good for churning out 180 horsepower with 250 newton meters of torque. The engine will be teamed up with a seven-speed automatic gearbox. The 2.0 liter TDI powerplant is also available in Europe generating 150 horsepower with 320 newton meters of torque. This engine is teamed up with a 6-speed manual transmission.
Besides this, the automaker also has a 1.4l TFSI, which is good for producing 140 PS and 122 PS. Exact variants for India will be revealed closer to launch. Audi has extensive plans for India and hopes to expand its dealer networks in India from a present 31 outlets to 40 so as to enhance their presence in the country and hold onto its leadership position.
They continue to be India’s No 1 luxury automaker with a record performance in March 2014.
