The new Baleno from Maruti Suzuki is being teased by the company across the country through their Nexa showrooms. The Baleno will follow on the lines of the S-Cross and will be sold through the Nexa showrooms. Based on a new platform, the car is classified as a small car and measures in at 3955mm in terms of length and 1745mm in terms of width.
The Baleno is to be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine which will deliver 83bhp in terms of power as well as 115Nm of torque. There will also be an option of a 1.3-litre DDiS200 multijet diesel engine delivering 90bhp of power as well as 200Nm of torque. The engines are to run on the Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) technology offered by Suzuki and this will help improve efficiency of the vehicles. It is being touted that the Baleno might well turn out to be India’s most fuel efficient car.
Since it will be a beneficiary of the hybrid car subsidy, the Baleno is likely to be extremely competitively priced. The range of pricing is expected to be between Rs.5.25 lakh to Rs.8.25 lakh and will appeal to most Indian small car consumers. It will enter a fiercely competitive playing field and will look to take on the likes of the mighty Hyundai i20 as well as the Honda Jazz here in the Indian market. Maruti has been waiting for an out and out winner for a while now and this just might be it.
