These engines will be delivered in addition to the 1.3 Liter Multijet SDE already produced by Suzuki Powertrain India under license from Fiat. This particular engine already powers the Swift hatchback from Maruti and these additional engines will be used in the 100,000 Swifts that have already been booked by consumers. Apart from the Swift, the Maruti SX4 and the Ritz are also powered by the 1.3 Liter Multijet from Fiat.

The 1.3 Liter Multijet engine from Fiat is a BS IV four cylinder engine 16V diesel engine. With the tremendous increase in the demands of diesel engines, auto manufacturers in India are finding it extremely difficult to produce so many engines for their cars. The problem for Maruti is acute in particular since it has to meet the demands for 100,000 diesel Swifts that have already been orde3red by the consumers.
