There were some speculations doing the rounds on the Internet which mentioned that Fiat’s SUV is likely to be based on Fiat 500. But a detailed research in the industry has cleared the air and iterated that the Fiat’s B-segment SUV will be based on ‘Punto’ instead of 500. In other words it can be said that Punto will get the Adventure version in its segment.

This model will be more or less similar to the Palio Adventure. Though Palio was a successful car but an addition of Adventure to that segment had enhanced its product line which in return gave an edge over competitors. And as of now, Punto Adventure is expected to do the same for the particular segment. It will help Punto and Linea to compete with SUVs and crossovers without shedding their comfort features.

Fiat to launch B-Segment SUV against Renault Duster
We expect Adventure to sport 1.4 liter and 1.3 liter petrol and diesel engine respectively. It will be priced against Renault Duster.

On doing a calculation we came to know that manufacturing Adventure on 500’s platform will cost a lot and thus premium-pricing will make it to stand out of the targeted segment. On other hand, if it will be made on Punto’s/ Linea’s platform, it will definitely bring down the cost and hence Fiat will be able to price it competitively in market.

Fiat has always won the customer’s confidence with its Multijet Diesel engine and powerful cars. Now it seems like the Italian carmaker is set to give a tough competition to actual off-roaders by launching Jeep, Wrangler and Grand Cherokee in India. We can say that Fiat has adopted bottom-top strategy to mark its presence in the industry.
