Mahindra and Mahindra have just reported its highest monthly sales ever for the month of January 2011. The New Year seems to have started just on the right note for the Indian auto major. It reportedly sold 36,718 vehicles in January 2011, which is a 22 percent increase from the previous year’s 30,149 vehicles for January. And these are the overall figures which include exports as well. But hold on before you jump the gun and brand this as a export growth story. The Indian automobile manufacturer has witnessed it highest ever sales in the domestic market which was tagged at 34,601 vehicles for January 2011, a 19 percent increase from the previous years domestic sales for January, 28,988 vehicles. Closely analysed, the statistics revealed that exports has grown exponentially by an astonishing 82 percent in the same period.
The passenger car segment (inclusive of Logan and UVs) have also posted a 15 percent growth rate and have sold 17,208 for the month of January 2011, which is an increase of 2210 units for the same period in the previous year. In the pick-up segment, which include the likes of Genio, Gio and the Maxximo the growth is tremendous with a growth of 18 percent, whereas the growth rate in the 3-wheeler segment was witnessed at 37 percent.
Speaking about the milestone numbers recorded by the company, Chief Executive- Automotive Division at M&M, Mr. Rajesh Jejurikar said that the event is a matter of great pride for the company, in view of January 2011 being the month registering record sales ever for the company. The company has sold a total of 36,718 vehicles, and the icing on the cake has been the overall performance of all the brands, even the ailing Logan posted an impressive figure of 1120 units which is the highest in 28 months. He signed off by saying that the company is looking to consolidate its position in the segment of pick-up, with the latest launch of Genio.
