Jaguar XF 3.0D – The big cat takes a leap

There are those Germans competing it out in the Indian luxury car market and then there is the British nee Indian luxury car marque Jaguar. Jaguar cars are a more exclusive piece than the other Germans. Now, Jaguar Motors have brought in the Audi A6, BMW 5 series and the Mercedes E class rival, the Jaguar XF 3.0D to India. The exteriors speak of British opulence whereas the interiors also reflect the same feelings. The classic feel comes when one thumbs the electric starter and the gear lever emerges from its cocoon with the AC vents also opening up. Using a feather touch, the glove box opens up whereas the front cabin lights also start glowing the moment you touch them.

The Jaguar’s multimedia system gets an intuitive touch screen which is far more easier to use than its German rivals. Due to its coupe like sloping roof line, there isn’t enough head room at the rear. Other than that, the seats front and rear are comfortable. Its ride and handling can be called safe and predictable. That saying, the car isn’t a true drivers car like the BMW 5 series or for that matter even the Mercedes E class. It has a raised for India suspension and this means that it can handle the rough as well as good roads with aplomb.

The motor under the hood is the 3.0 liter V6 which makes 274 Bhp and about 61.1 Kgm of torque. This is enough to propel the big car from 0-100 kmph in just 7.3 seconds. This motor has an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph. Performance is effortless in this sedan as is the NVH which is even lower than what can be found in its German rivals. This engine is also more powerful and torquier than its rivals. The icing on the cake is the Rs 48 lakhs price ex show-room, Delhi for the fully loaded variant. Even though, they have miniscule operations in India, the Tata group would go all out to promote this car as a worthy alternative to the much established Germans.
